A note from June

Hi friends,

It's been another busy week full of really insightful conversations.
For someone, who is not naturally good at puzzles, this week I really feel like I cracked a few and it was very satisfying.

Top of mind for me as always is you and how to best serve you. Many of you told me this week that you are frustrated with not being paid fairly. We hear you and we are working hard behind the scenes to fix this. We have lots of ideas and with ideas comes testing.

We so appreciate the many of you who put your hands up as we test out the ideas that will move us forward. We aren't here just to build software. That's a by-product. We want to solve your problems with getting the rate you ought to be commanding, not having to prove all the time that you're worth it, not have to keep worrying about where the next role will come from and what your future career wealth looks like. We want to take that all off your mind so you can do what you love.

Do the actual work that gets you jumping out of bed and excited to be living this amazing multi-income stream life. We believe it shouldn't feel hard and uncertain.

Updates from MyPholyo Playground

On Thursday 5 November we are making the whole of MyPholyo physical. We've got some exciting new additions to our lineup to share.

Nurole is recording live

Oliver Cummings, chief executive of the board hiring platform Nurole, is bringing his podcast Enter the Boardroom to Playground to record a full episode live in the room. Oliver interviews the people who sit on and chair boards about how those careers actually work, and his guest will be announced shortly. If a non-executive seat is part of your plan, come and hear how people get them.

Susan Mackie is bringing a mindset workshop

Susan identified false growth mindset (people saying all the right growth mindset words while their actions told a different story) before the research community did. She took the finding to Carol Dweck at Stanford, who was sceptical. Two years later, Dweck published the article confirming Susan was right. Dweck now describes her as:

"One of the most highly qualified mindset thinkers and practitioners in the world today."

She co-created the fixed mindset triggers framework, sits on the OECD Committee for Growth Mindset, chaired by Dweck, and her mindset assessment has been completed over 90,000 times in more than 40 countries. You can find out more about her work at Growth Mindset Institute.

Lovable is a Build Partner at the Playground

The market is still moving your way

The ONS published its August labour market figures on Tuesday, and they read like a case for the way you already work. Payrolled employees fell by 94,000 over the year to 30.3 million, vacancies slipped to 707,000, and regular pay grew 3.5%. Salaried jobs are getting scarcer while the work itself still pays, which is the market a portfolio career is built for.
